Disabled man ‘keeps shaking’ and ‘can’t sleep’ after machete home invasion

A young man has been left “shaken” after machete-wielding thugs smashed their way into his Heidelberg West home – the fourth time offenders have tried to gain entry into his house.

A Melbourne mother has told of how her disabled son has become too fearful to return to his home after machete-wielding thugs smashed their way inside.

The 23-year-old man’s Heidelberg West home was targeted in a slew of break-ins across Melbourne’s northern suburbs on Saturday night and Sunday morning, with the offenders using machetes to smash a bedroom window.

“He’s shaken. He can’t sleep. He keeps crying. He keeps shaking.

“This is not acceptable in our community,” his mother told 9News.

“I’m just thankful that he’s alive and he didn’t have to witness the machetes in his face or anything more horrific.”

It is understood Sunday’s break-in is the fourth time offenders have tried to gain entry into the young man’s home.

The man, who lives with a disability, has been so frightened by the break-ins he moved back in with his mother over the weekend.

“We’re not feeling safe and we just hope that authorities will take this thing seriously and make Melbourne safe,” his mother said.

The man’s home was one of several targeted over a matter of hours.

In Viewbank, two 17-year-old boys reportedly tried to break into three other properties, but were disturbed by residents at one of the homes before they fled.

“These youth just need to stop doing this to innocent, vulnerable people,” one resident said.
