Hundreds of bikies from one of Australia’s most powerful outlawed motorcycle gangs have drawn attention during an organised run through Melbourne’s outer suburbs.
Members of Melbourne’s chapter of the Comanchero OMCG gathered at the Nitro gym in Hallam about 10.30am ahead of the organised ride on Saturday.
National President Mick Murray led the group’s 2021 Easter run.
He was accompanied by hundreds of burly bikies, most who wore the club’s striking black and yellow uniform.
Brief periods of rain during the morning did not dampen the gang’s spirit as they rode through Dandenong and Cranbourne along the Princes Highway.
The group stopped at Tides Bar and Grill in Tooradin for lunch and drinks.
A huge police convoy pulled the gang over in Tooradin on its return.
“Victoria Police is aware of the Comanchero OMCG run this weekend,” a police spokeswoman said.
“It’s believed the run will travel through Dandenong, Cranbourne, Tooradin and Hallam.
“Police will act to prevent and detect outlaw motorcycle gang members who commit public safety-related offences or breach the road rules and will target those who choose to ride outside the parameters of the law.
“The riders will be treated like any other motorist.
“Victoria Police will have an increased presence to minimise any community concerns that may arise and will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies as part of a national approach to OMCG enforcement.”
Bikies from across the country joined the meetup including men from the Perth, Wollongong, Canberra and Brisbane chapters.
Police pulled over gang members as they left the venue.
An hour long process took place where detectives gathered identification of those on the ride.
Police took photos of the gang members, breath tested them and checked for motorcycle registration before they were allowed to move on.
Victoria Police worked along with members from the Australian Federal Police in the effort.
The bikie-busting Echo task force were joined by police from the Public Order Response team, the air wing, the evidence gathering team and uniformed members.
Detectives from the National Anti Gang Squad also assisted.
The bikies drew significant attention from people gathered at a nearby football oval.
The gang drove away once everyone had been processed about 2.30pm.
