The Allan Government have revealed where their first 1000 social and affordable homes will be built to ease the housing crisis in regional communities.

The homes will be built under state’s the $1 billion Regional Housing Fund and will help the homeless, and families in need.

Ms Allan also revealed funding of $500,000 to boost the Regional Planner Cadetship Program in the bid to hasten planning decisions and get more homes built sooner.

Ms Allan said regional Victoria would play a big role in fixing the housing crisis.

“As a regional Victorian, there’s no better place to live – that’s why we’re making sure more young Victorians and families can get the chance to live here too,” she said.

Additionally to the new homes, the government will also move to overhaul the state’s infrastructure fund to ensure more amenity and open space is included in new housing projects.

Ms Allan revealed so far less than a third of councils are using the developer contributions to get services and parks built.

Under the new plan, the developer contributions system would be overhauled to better support communities.

Ms Allan said members of the Housing Affordability Partnership will meet from November 2024 to look at a new statewide model and will report back to the government in March 2025.
