Budding podcaster Paris Tier has spoken about the hatred and body shaming she has experienced online because she is a WAG.

Tier, whose partner is GWS Giants player Conor Stone, is calling out the trolling to spotlight the harm such behaviour can have on an individual and their mental health.

Confident and living her best life, Tier recently found herself being affected by horrible comments about her weight, appearance and role as a WAG after she posted videos of herself on TikTok.

“Hate towards women who date professional athletes really fluctuates based on how your partner is performing,” Tier said.

“Last year I got body hate, but it never really affected me until a few months ago. As you get older your body changes and fluctuates; I call it ‘love tummy’.

“I posted this one video and I started getting men commenting on my weight. The biggest comment I get is I don’t look like a WAG.”

As a result of the trolling she even looked into using a weight loss injectable, but was told she was healthy and not eligible for the drug.

“All I could think of was my younger self, or myself a year ago, when I was super positive about everything I did and I was just so upset, because I had let these people who don’t even have faces control my day and my mind,” she said of the cruel online taunts.

Instead she consulted a dietitian and lost several kilos. She posted about achievement online only to get a message saying content like hers encouraged eating disorders.

“It was so confronting,” Tier said.

“I felt as if I could not post a video where I felt comfortable in my body and then I could not post a video where I felt confident in my body. I feel like comfortable and confident are very different.”

She has now taken measures to protect her mental health.

“I am not posting every day anymore because if I wake up and I don’t feel like doing it I am not going to do it,” she said.

“I would rather go and have an ice cream outside with my boyfriend and dog. I am going to prioritise my mental health over social media.”

Tier, who is launching a podcast called WAG - Women and Goals - on April 16 and is the founder of Tequila Tierra, said social media trolling needed to be stamped out, people should be more thoughtful when they post comments and prioritising your mental health was paramount.

“Social media should be better, it should be a place of no hate and no bullying,’ Tier said.

“You should be able to feel comfortable and confident no matter what you are doing and online companies should be doing better.”
