Vegemite is making sure Australia’s first Test thrashing of the Poms in the Ashes leaves a bitter taste in the Barmy Army’s mouth.
Australia’s favourite yeast extract spread has taken out full-page ads in British newspapers reminding the Poms of the loss.
The advertisement is in response to Marmite, the British version of Vegemite, handing out jars at the Ashes to prove it tastes better.
Vegemite conceded the Poms would prefer Marmite - because their palates weren’t tough enough.
“You see, Vegemite is a far stronger taste,” the advertisement states.
“(Its) made of resilience and fortitude with a dash of cunning and guile.”
The ad makes direct reference to the first Test, Steve Smith’s two centuries and Australia’s overall win.
“Vegemite tastes like back-to-back tons on your return test,” it reads.
“Vegemite tastes like a come-from-behind victory by 251 runs.
“You lot won’t like the taste of Vegemite because Vegemite tastes like Australia.
“Catch Ya at Lord’s.”
