Steve Smith ruled out of third Test at Headingley

AUSTRALIA will try to retain the Ashes at Headingley without star batsman Steve Smith who hasn’t recovered from the sickening blow that forced him to be subbed out of last week’s second Test at Lord’s.

Australian coach Justin Langer confirmed Smith would not play as he spent the majority of his team’s first and major training session ahead of Thursday’s third Test sitting on the fence talking to former Australian captain Mark Taylor.

UQ’s reliance on millions in Chinese student fees poses major threat

UNIVERSITY of Queensland’s “unsustainably risky, over-reliance” on fee-paying Chinese international students, who boost its revenue by $250 million a year, leaves it at risk of needing a taxpayer-funded bailout if the market collapses, according to a new report.

UQ is one of seven Australian universities more dependent on Chinese students “than just about any other universities in the English-speaking world”, with some Queensland lectures made up of 80 per cent foreign students.

SOUTH Sydney skipper Sam Burgess has questioned what Anthony Seibold is “playing at” after the Broncos coach’s critique of the Rabbitohs ahead of Friday’s grudge match.

After Brisbane’s win over the Panthers last week, Seibold said “not a lot’s changed from last year” about the Rabbitohs attack.

Burgess (right) laughed off that suggestion yesterday while Adam Reynolds declared his side were “predictable” last year under the now Broncos coach.
