Police have arrested and charged a man on Palm Island who they say was a passenger in a stolen car that allegedly drove at a cop before being found burnt out in Burdell on Monday morning.

The car was one of two allegedly stolen vehicles which were found “totally destroyed by fire”, with four others stolen and 10 burglaries across Townsville in a matter of two days.

The other cars and burglaries are not related to the stolen car.

The 19-year-old was arrested and charged on Palm Island after police allege he took an early morning ferry to the island.

The 19-year-old is accused of being a passenger in a vehicle allegedly stolen from Cairns before being burned out in Boult Crescent on Monday morning.

It’s believed the vehicle — which police say was stolen from Cairns and set alight in Boult Crescent — also drove at police near Cairns.

Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said police would allege the car drove at a police officer following an unsuccessful tyre deflation device deployment.

In an unrelated incident, another vehicle was found burned out in bushland near Mallorca Circuit.

Two 17-year-old suspects are being sought in relation to that crime.
