A SMALL gesture to remedy the brazen actions of thieves has brightened the days of staff and customers at a Townsville cafe who were left shocked by a bizarre theft.
The staff at Yolanda General Store in Annandale woke to a trail of dirt and an empty planter box on Sunday morning after a pair of not-so-sneaky thieves ripped out 10 of their newly-planted flowers.
The duo left a trail of soil and the entire incident was caught on CCTV camera.
The vision depicts the man and woman slowly walk around the shop, before plucking each individual plant from their spot and walking out of sight.
Store manager and gardener, Jessica Clancy said regulars adored their bright garden, often grabbing their newspaper and sitting down to read and smell the blooms.
“The girls originally went to water the garden and realised someone had stolen all the flowers we had just planted,” Ms Clancy said.
“We are just shocked someone would steal $2 plants.
“We just wanted to create a wholesome community garden.”
Just hours after sharing the news to their social media, one of their regular customers came in bearing an armful of beautiful flowers.
“The lady came in to get and coffee and had been to Bunnings … we were super surprised, it was very sweet,” she said.
Ms Clancy said other customers had even donated money to help replace the stolen plants.
“Everyone has been so lovely, and are really happy to have their flowers back.”
