A woman who was assaulted around 3am and had her handbag stolen reportedly fled towards a 24/7 gym seeking safety - only to be followed and attacked again.
Early morning gym goers noticed something was wrong when their attempts to enter the Planet Fitness location in Willows Shopping Centre were blocked by police early this morning.
One witness reported seeing blood on the door.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said they are investigating an armed robbery with violence that occurred this morning, January 11.
Initial investigations indicate that between 3am and 4.30am, a 34-year-old woman was approached by two unknown people at an address on Kern Brothers Drive, Kirwan.
She was assaulted by the two unknown people and had a handbag stolen.
According to police, she then fled the area on foot to a shopping centre car park on Hervey Range Rd (Willows Shopping Centre) before being assaulted further by the same two persons before they left the scene.
At the time Planet Fitness would’ve been open, but only to gym members with access cards.
Emergency services were then called to the area around 4.30am, with the woman being transported to hospital for treatment.
Queensland Ambulance said the woman was transported in a stable condition.
