A popular Christmas parade entertaining families for two decades has been cancelled this year as COVID-19 takes another victim.

Organisers of the Willows Community Santa Parade said it was with a “heavy heart” that they shared the news the long-running parade would be cancelled this December.

“We regret to inform you that this year’s Santa Parade will not be going ahead due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on social distancing,” the statement read.

“We will return with the joy and excitement of Santa’s arrival in 2021 and we hope that we will see many of you in the parade next year.”

The popular parade, which has been running for 20 years, usually drew hundreds of people who celebrated Christmas by watching the parade floats on Thuringowa Dr.
