The established family-owned restaurant on the bank of Ross Creek has locals at the forefront, making it Townsville’s favourite.

A Touch of Salt was voted the city’s best by Townsville Bulletin readers.

Owner Mark Brine said the restaurant will celebrate 15 years of wining and dining customers in October this year and was centred around offering a homely welcome.

“It’s almost like dining at home. I always tell people if you dine at my home, it’s no different to the restaurant,” he said.

“We have an understanding of what people want when people are dining with us.”

Mr Brine comes from a line of foodies in his family, and operates the restaurant with his brother Michael, who is one of the chefs.

Mr Brine said he has built a good understanding of what people want when they sit down in the Ogden St restaurant.

“It’s hospitality, taking good care of people, being attentive,” he said.

On top of that, the menus change four times a year to celebrate the best of the seasons and wine lists rotating each month.

At the moment the menu includes dishes such as pomegranate and fennel roasted duck, slow roasted goat and fresh reef fish.

Mr Brine said the restaurant boasted a “good kitchen team” and was fostering talent for those with a passion in the hospitality industry, training young staff.

A Touch of Salt was a clear favourite in the Bulletin’s poll, taking out 27 per cent of the vote followed by Shorehouse, Miss Songs, IMC Steakhouse and Bridgewater.
