‘We want answers’: Family appeals over Mount Isa hit-and-run death of Jason Dick
The heartbroken family of a “hardworking” dad who was killed in a horrific hit-and-run has made a desperate appeal for the driver to come forward.

The heartbroken family of a “hardworking” dad who was killed in a horrific hit-and-run has made a desperate appeal for the driver to come forward.
The vehicle and its occupants did not remain at the scene or call emergency services, leaving Mr Dick — who had sustained significant injuries — to pass away at the scene.
Friends and family have shared touching tributes since the father’s tragic passing, with Mr Dick being remembered as a “very hard worker and an honest guy” by his colleagues at the Mount Isa City Council parks and gardens department.
Jason’s partner Wongka Neale said he loved spending time with mates and exploring the Mount Isa.
“One of his favourite things was just to hang out with his mates, going out to the junction every weekend. He loved his fishing,” Ms Neale said.
Wongka said someone has to know something and urged them to do the right thing for Jason and for his family.
“If you know something, just come forward because we’re not going to find out anything, any answers, if they don’t come forward. I want to just move on. All I want is answers, that’s all.”
Jason’s mother, Maudie Wilde, said her son Jason was a good boy and asked that if anyone knew what happened to him that night to tell the police.
Mount Isa District Detective Inspector Dave Barron said an investigation centre had been established at Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch to determine the circumstances around Jason’s death.
“Assistance has been sought from specialist units in Brisbane and Townsville who have directly worked with our local investigators as they explore the circumstances around this incident,” he said.
“The impact of this death on the Mount Isa community is significant. Jason has a daughter and other family members in this community who have been deeply impacted by this incident.”
