A 16-year-old Gulliver boy has been charged following a terrifying Annandale break-in, where he allegedly threatened a child while trying to steal a car.
Police allege the teen entered a home on Linaria Court around 8.30pm on Sunday, March 23, armed with a multi-grip tool.
Once inside, he allegedly confronted and threatened a child before stealing car keys.
Police said he then attempted to take off in the family’s vehicle, but was stopped in his tracks when the car’s engine immobiliser kicked in.
Shortly after, the boy allegedly tried to break into another home on Fardon Street, Annandale.
Following ongoing investigations, police arrested the teenager on Tuesday, April 1.
He was charged with multiple offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering dwellings and premises with intent, stealing, and attempted unlawful use of a vehicle involving threats or implied violence.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Townsville Children’s Court on Tuesday, April 2.
Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said police are continuing to crack down on youth crime and violent offending in the region.
“We will not tolerate any attempts of violence in the community and are continuing to tackle youth crime from every angle,” he said.
“Everyone should feel, and be safe, and we will continue working to disrupt youth offending, and seek justice for victims.”
