FROM shadow-boxing to arrest selfies, the first Saturday night since COVID-19 dancing restrictions eased was a messy one in Townsville.
Police were out in force at Flinders St dealing with drunk revellers, but some took things too far and landed themselves in handcuffs.
Among the arrests was a 25-year-old Kirwan man who was shadow-boxing random people on the street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Witnesses told police he was shirtless, and paced up and down Flinders St trying to spar with multiple people.
A spokesman from Queensland Police said he was arrested after allegedly yelling at police, and given a fine for public nuisance and obstructing police.
Another incident was filmed on Snapchat, showing two officers and a security guard holding down a man who was not co-operating with police.
“Stop resisting, stop resisting,” one officer told the man as a woman watched on filming.
A man tried to get in on the action and can be seen laying down in front of the incident trying to take a selfie.
Before he can take a photo, another security guard snatches his phone away.
The incidents were among a handful of arrests at the nightclub strip on the first weekend since dancing was permitted at clubs.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath announced the easing of dancing restrictions on December 10, but warned it wouldn’t be exactly the same, saying people still needed to maintain some distancing.
