Townsville Police have revoked a “massive” exclusion zone following an arrest in the West end.
“The earlier emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act has been revoked,” Queensland Police Service said on Friday afternoon.
A spokesperson said a 32-year-old man had been arrested “in relation to unrelated matters”.
“Members of the public are thanked for their cooperation.”
Queensland Ambulance Service had earlier confirmed that a male had been transported from an address on Nix St and transported to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.
It is understood the man was being treated for “behavioural” issues.
In an earlier statement, QPS confirmed it had made an emergency declaration under the PSPA.
“An emergency situation was declared at approximately 10am, with boundaries encompassing Francis Street, Montgomery Street, Gordon Street, Douglas Street and Chandler Street,” a QPS spokesperson said on Friday morning.
“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice.”
A woman said she believed the dramatic incident was unfolding next to her property on Nix Street, saying that in her rush to evacuate she had left her mobile phone behind.
The neighbour said she had no idea why she had been evacuated, saying only that there was a “crime scene” next to her house.
“All they told me, ‘it’s for everyone’s safety because it’s a crime scene’,” she said.
She said she did not know the occupants of the property and had no previous issues.
“But the people who were still in there, are still in there.”
She said her adult child also remained in their property but there was no way for her to contact him.
“I would like to know if he’s all right.”
