A TOWNSVILLE mum-to-be has faced court after her “sophisticated” drug set-up was busted by police.
Chantelle Louise Keasey, 30, pleaded guilty to five charges in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday. They were producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing used utensils or pipes and possessing anything used in the commission of crime.
Prosecutor Cody Rowe told the court police raided Keasey’s house on June 4 and located nine cannabis plants varying in height.
Mr Rowe told the court Keasey made full admissions to growing, watering and fertilising the plants that she intended to “chop up” and smoke for personal reasons.
He said seven grams of cannabis was also found on a kitchen table along with a packet of seeds.
Mr Rowe said Keasey “smoked cannabis to help her sleep at night”.
He described the set-up as “sophisticated” given it was nine plants that were being tended to.
Keasey’s lawyer Tracy Brown said her client was 15 weeks pregnant and employed full time at a local service station.
Ms Brown said Keasey had since been referred to rehabilitation by her GP.
Magistrate Scott Luxton said Keasey made full admissions to police and that went in her favour in sentencing but said it was concerning she was using cannabis while pregnant.
He sentenced her to six months probation.
A conviction was not recorded.
