It was a case of double trouble for Mount Louisa mum Emma Pesl with the arrival of two bundles of joy 10 weeks ago.
Multiple births run in Ms Pesl’s family and she welcomed twins, Ariella and Amerah on January 13.
Ms Pesl and her partner Mark Annetts have celebrated their first Multiple Births Awareness Week, recognised from March 15-22.
The mother of three said the week was an important time on the calendar.
“It is exciting to be able to let everyone know what being a multi-mum is like,” she said.
“It is great to bring to light that it isn’t easy and we have our struggles but at the end of the day we are blessed.” The theme for the week celebrates ‘better together’, highlighting the connection between families and the Australian Multiple Birth Association.
The Townsville and District Multiple Birth Association had a few events planned to celebrate the week but they have been postponed.
Ms Pesl joined the local association when she was 12 weeks pregnant and said it had helped her navigate her new life as a multi-mum.
“Throughout your pregnancy doctors tell you so much but it is so good to hear it from someone who has had that experience,” she said. “I had a few multi-mums come up and visit me in hospital … and when I had the babies, I had mothers offering to bring me over meals.”
