Townsville police have declared a crime scene after a suspicious house fire in Mount Louisa.

Queensland Fire Department confirmed that firefighters had responded to the fire in a single-level dwelling on Bayswater Rd and Hilltop Drive at 11.45am on Tuesday.

A QFD spokesperson said smoke was billowing from the house when two crews arrived on scene.

He said the occupants of the home had been able to escape the fire.

Queensland Ambulance Service said both occupants had managed to escape unscathed and had declined further treatment.

Queensland Police Service confirmed that a crime scene had been declared following the fire.

Both police and fire investigators probe fires where the cause of the blazes are not immediately apparent.
