Two teen girls have been charged after they allegedly fled the scene where a stolen Holden Captiva crashed into a tree in Idalia.

Police are investigating after a silver Holden Captiva was stolen during a burglary at a Kirrama Ct, Bushland Beach address on Saturday, March 1.

The stolen car was captured on video being driven around in circles by youths near Douglas St, Garbutt, about 4pm on Sunday.

Angry mum Lisa Bozsan said she had been walking home from the park with her daughter and nieces when they came across the car.

She claims it began swerving towards them every time they tried to cross the road, in what she described as a blatant attempt at “intimidation”.

“I started to record, my girl was so scared you can hear her screaming in the background,” she said.

“They were saying they would ram us.

“You can clearly see they were intimidating us.”

A few hours later, the stolen car collided with a tree on Aquatic Pl, Idalia, and the youths inside the car fled on foot.

Police enlisted the help of the dog squad to locate and take two teenage girls into custody about 9pm on Sunday.

A 15-year-old Kirwan girl has been charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of stealing.

A 14-year-old Kirwan girl was also charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

They both appeared in Townsville Children’s Court on Monday, and their bail was refused.
