Townsville dog Bear Bailey’s good looks and fluffy coat has seen him make the top Queensland Dog of Oz shortlist.
Bear is a chow-chow, also know as “Majestueux Grand Master Shifu” in the showdog world.
The Bailey family adopted Bear 14 months ago and the two-year-old purebred is just one of the family now for Tracey and her two daughters, 13-year-old Natasha and 11-year-old Eddie.
Natasha entered Bear in the News Corp Dogs of Oz competition and said he deserved to win because of his looks and charm.
“He is fluffy and loves to cuddle and when I don’t feel good, I pick him up and he cheers me up,” she said. Bear even has his own Instagram page – bearchow – with followers from around the world including New York and Sweden. Ms Bailey said Bear was the perfect pet for the family.
“He is the girls’ dog and being young females they wanted something fluffy yet still strong enough to hold his own and to protect the family,” she said.
Also known as “BB”, he is a fussy eater and likes to eat “anything chicken” and usually rotates sleeping in everyone’s bedrooms at night.
Ms Bailey said Bear was “totally spoilt” and was “a very relaxed and chilled out dog”.
“He is definitely part of the family and he is just like another child for me.”
The Dogs of Oz winner will be announced on March 7.
