A North Queensland musician’s recent success has landed her on many different stages recently, but her spot on the Winton Way Out West festival stage hits close to home.
Townsville country music singer Josie has recently taken the country music scene by storm with her singles ‘Down Here’ and ‘Freight Man’ amassing close to 600,000 listeners on Spotify.
After a successful year playing at the Tamworth Country Music festival, Josie has recently returned and is looking forward to an event on regional Queensland soil.
“The Winton Way Out West Fest is always such a great event,” Josie said.
“It plays an important role in showcasing regional Queensland and all it has to offer.”
Josie will feature alongside an impressive line up of musicians including Robbie Mortimer, Will Day, Amber Lawrence and headline act The Screaming Jets.
“I am so pumped to be performing at Winton, the crowds are always so appreciative of all the music” Josie said.
“I can’t wait to bring my songs out there and share my love of it, and all my stories.”
While the festival will be an impressive showcase of musical talent, it will also feature plenty of other entertainment including bull riders and freestyle motocross athletes as part of PBR Australia’s second year of Bulls, Bands and Bikes after dark (BAD).
PBR Australia General Manager Glen Young said that the $50,000 bull-riding prize money had cowboys from around the country flocking to the outback town.
“With substantial prize money up for grabs, the event has generated a buzz among the bull riders,” Mr Young said.
“This year, we will also have some of our young guns showcasing their bull riding ability through our Junior Academy, which will be on display throughout the weekend.
“Joining in on the action will also be the jaw-dropping Airtime FMX, who will be showcasing their gravity-defying freestyle motocross show.”
Winton Mayor, Gavin Baskett, said excitement for the event builds every year within the community.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our town and give the local economy a boost leading into tourist season,” Mr Baskett said.
“The council is proud to be working in partnership with PBR and has made a significant investment to boost the tourism shoulder this season.
“We’re hoping for a busy weekend at the motels, hotels, cafes and all other businesses in town, so get on out to Winton for the 2024 Way Out West Fest and help support our local economy.”
The festival is set to take place on April 5 and 6 with tickets on sale now.
