Tide Cafe and Catering owner reflects on past six years, teases exciting changes coming soon
The owner of Tide Cafe and Catering has revealed the secret behind the cafe’s “exceptional service and exceptional products,” while teasing potential menu changes.
North Ward’s Tide Cafe will be shaking things up in the coming months, with its owner teasing potential menu changes he’s sure locals will love.
The Cafe and Catering business, which was a finalist in Townsville Bulletin’s best coffee poll, is known for its popular breakfast menu featuring smashed avocado and rosti stacks, and convenient location.
Chris Hanson has owned the cafe for six years, and said he’s been working with the head chef to bring new flavours to the community.
“In the next six to eight weeks we’ll be looking at doing a full menu change,” he said.
“That's going to be something big for us, we’re going to see some exciting changes on that new menu.”
While he could not reveal too many particulars of the switch up, he said locals can expect a popular item to make a return.
Mr Hanson said he’s been working in hospitality for 20 years now, and since acquiring Tide Cafe, said he couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
“You don’t do this if you don’t love it,” he said.
“It’s all about building relationships with people and keeping good relationships with people and that’s an important part for myself.”
Mr Hanson said he bought Tide after wanting a change from his previous type of work.
“When I was leaving my corporate background I wanted to look at doing something myself instead of working for somebody else,” he said.
“I love dealing with people, customer service is a key part of what I do.”
One of Townsville’s earliest opening cafes, Mr Hanson said Tide is popular among early risers, and its staff never fail to make customers feel welcome.
“We always receive positive feedback I think because of our location,” he said.
“People who come and exercise in the morning always come in.”
Mr Hanson said the staff are the core of the business, and always ensure top quality products and services.
“We’ve worked very hard in ensuring that we have the correct team, the right people in place, to ensure that we can provide exceptional service and exceptional products,” he said.
“Staffing is a challenge across the board, certainly in hospitality at the moment, but we’ve been able to keep a good core staff.”
