Third murder trial of Kayla Golding to be rescheduled in June at Townsville Supreme Court

The murder trial for a woman who was allegedly stabbed and killed by her best friend at a set of Townsville apartments will proceed after two failed court proceedings.

It’s been almost four years to the date that a Townsville woman died and her best friend allegedly stabbed her in the neck and left her to die in a driveway.

The trial date of Kayla Golding’s alleged killer Chante Lee White will be determined in June this year, along with the separate trial date of the man, Jamie Alan McAullife, alleged to have helped her hide from police.

Crown prosecutor Monique Sheppard told Townsville Supreme Court on Tuesday morning that the prosecution were ready “for trial number three”.

Ms White has been charged with murder and previously entered a plea of not guilty.

Mr McAullife pleaded not guilty to accessory after murder.

The pair have previously been to trial twice at the same time and both times the jury was discharged.

During the first trial a barrister suffered from a “medical episode” which ultimately cut the court proceedings short, and the second trial was dismissed due to “legal arguments” and “rulings” Justice David North said at the time.

Ms Sheppard told the court the pair’s charges were now separated and Ms White’s trial was expected to go for seven days and asked for a trial listing date.

Justice North said he couldn’t give exact dates at this time and proposed an adjournment.

“I’m hopeful the availability in terms of the diary will be crystallised or be reliable one way or the other,” he said.

“If matters become clearer much earlier than that, we can bring a mention forward to discuss dates.”

The murder charge was adjourned to June 27.
