LOCALS have the chance to unearth a glittering prize at this weekend’s Townsville Gem and Mineral Club annual show.
Cancelled last year because of Covid, this year’s show is featuring a host of activities to cater for people of all ages, including young gem fans such as Liam, 8, and Claire Hudson, 11.
Townsville Gem and Mineral Club spokeswoman Suzy Petran said the annual show will feature more than 40 stalls showcasing dazzling gems and minerals.
“Each stone is individual. You work it, grind and polish it and you bring out the beauty in nature,” she said.
“We can help people identify their stones, and there’s a lot of activities people can participate in.
“We have gold panning and fossicking for stones in the sand.
“We also have a treasure hunt with prizes and there’ll be music and a canteen.”
The Townsville Gem and Mineral Club Annual Show is being held at the Townsville Gem Club at 96 Mooney St, Gulliver and starts today at 9am and runs to 4pm, and resumes tomorrow at 9am and finishes 2pm.
Entry is $4 for adults and free for children aged 12 years and under.
