A Townsville man who police allege handed himself in and confessed to his involvement in the alleged murder of Kayla Golding has been refused bail.
Jamie Alan Mcauliffe, 39, was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder linked to a shocking stabbing on a busy Townsville street on Friday.
He fronted the Townsville Magistrates Court from the witness box on Wednesday after spending three days behind bars on remand.
Mcauliffe surrendered to police on Sunday afternoon before police arrested Chante Lee White, 29, and charged her with Kayla’s murder.
Police prosecutor Kassandra Hall opposed Mcauliffe’s bail application and said it was “serious violent offending” that resulted in a death.
“He has played a role in the aftermath of this woman’s death,” Ms Hall said.
Twenty nine year old Kayla Golding was found in a pool of blood after she was allegedly fatally stabbed in her neck outside a unit complex on Riverway Dr, Condon.
Emergency services frantically tried to save the woman’s life but she later succumbed to her injuries.
Mcauliffe’s lawyer Nick Douglas of Legal Aid said it was accepted his client was present when the alleged murder unfolded.
Mr Douglas said the 39-year-old was “unaware” he was a person of interest before handing himself into police.
The court heard Mcaullife was recently employed by the Townsville Show Society.
Magistrate Ken Taylor refused Mcaullife’s bail application and said there was an “unacceptable risk” associated if bail was granted.
Mcaullife’s charge was adjourned to August 4 for committal mention.
