ANGUS Gebers was born to be in the Australian Defence Force.
The 17-year-old was one of 10 air force and nine army recruits from Townsville and surrounding areas who left for the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra yesterday to begin exciting careers in the military.
Angus is working to become a pilot with a career in the Royal Australian Air Force running in his family.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” he said.
“My dad was in the air force as an engineer but regardless (joining) has always been something I’ve wanted to do.”
He will spend the next three years in military training while doing a Bachelor degree.
It’s then he’ll get to transition into a military cockpit for another two years.
“Any sort of military flying is something very different from what you’ll get in the civilian world so I’d be happy with any aircraft,” he said.
Angus’ mother Melissa said he was her second child joining the RAAF, with her daughter also serving.
