A major Australian company is looking to hire 100 Townsville people in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rachel Cliffe, regional general manager at Telstra, said the telecom business was looking to hire 100 people to join its Townsville call centres.

Coronavirus has caused widespread job losses across Queensland, with pubs, bars, gyms and indoor sporting venues, cinemas, entertainment venues, casinos, and night clubs closing today in a bid to prevent the spread of the respiratory virus.

Telstra is hiring 1000 temporary contractors across Australia to manage its call centre volumes.

The call centres are locals across six sites, including Townsville, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane, operating over 24 hours throughout the week.

Telstra is looking to hire people with call centre or retail customer service in a large-scale organisation.
