Not wanting to waste beer, The TapHouse Townsville has fought to stay open and continue allowing people to enjoy craft ales from small Australian brewers.
Bar owner Mark Rugg said the craft beer bar closed on Monday, March 23 after pubs were forced to shut down to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Wanting to clear the stock behind the bar, Mr Rugg explored the option of selling takeaway beers.
Mr Rugg sought the assistance of Townsville MP Scott Stewart, who helped get the licensing restrictions lifted, allowing the bar to sell tallies.
Mr Rugg said the move would allow TapHouse to stay open under reduced hours and could sell people up to three tallies to take home and enjoy.
“We don’t want beer to go to waste,” he said. “The number one thing for us is seeing our locals come in and support local business, it’s really heart warming.”
The kitchen would remain closed.
