A new room at one of Townsville’s favourite gyms has recently been repurposed, attracting an untapped customer base.
The newly refurbished room, The Space was built with the intention of being a multipurpose room for various gym users.
The floor to ceiling mirrors however have attracted a group of athletes not before thought of.
Bodybuilders have recently discovered the usefulness of the room ahead of various Queensland bodybuilding competitions.
The abundance of reflective surfaces and open floor space makes it perfect for posing practice and body check-ins for Townsville’s array of bodybuilders.
This can prevent some of the odd-looks that bodybuilders get when posing in open gym spaces.
A newcomer to the bodybuilding circuit, Olivia Muscat, was confronted with judgment at the beginning of her fitness journey.
“I pose where everyone can see,” Ms Muscat said.
“Every time I’m posing, all the people in the cardio area just stare.”
Strand Fitness general manager Donna Hartley said she hadn’t expected the room to be so popular with bodybuilders.
“We hadn’t promoted it as a posing room,” Ms Hartley said.
“We had a few of our members that were participating in (the ICN Tropix) who thought it was a fantastic area to pose.”
Aidan Harte, a local bodybuilder who recently competed, is excited to have a room where he can workout and pose all in one.
“It’s so great, it’s a super helpful room,” Mr Harte said.
“I used the room heaps leading up to my competition for posing.”
