Is you macramé magnificent? Is your artwork astounding? Do people swoon over your roses?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you should consider entering the 2021 Charters Towers Show.

Whether it is embroidery or papercrafts, vegetables or home-brew, all can be entered into the annual show, a showcase of the talents of the people of Charters Towers.

Show committee president Lachlan McAllister urged people to get involved in whatever way the could with the event which is on July 25-27.

Competitors can take part in equestrian and led cattle sections.

There are competitions for poultry and dairy goats.

In the Sallatina Hall you’ll find the fruit and vegetable, home brew, herbs, flowers, plants and orchid competitions.

While the Wallace James Hall will feature art, crochet, knitting, embroidery and handwork, machine sewing, patchwork, general handcraft, pottery, leatherwork, papercrafts, photography and woodturning classes as well as baking, confectionery, preserves, jams and honey.

Entry fees are as little as $1.50, depending on what section you are entering, and prizes are awarded for each section and for the section champions.

Mr McAllister said he hoped people would get involved by entering the show, which marks its 140th year this year.

Entries for the Wallace James Hall close on Friday, July 16, and the entry fee must be registered at the Charters Towers Show office, under the grandstand, at the showgrounds by 5pm.

Entries at the Wallace James Hall for most sections will be accepted for judging and display on Friday, July 23, between 11am and 5pm, with the baking, confectionery, preserves, jam and honey sections to be submitted on Sunday, July 25 between 7.30am and 9.30am.

Mr McAllister said all entry details for each of the sections are clearly written on the schedules, which are available online at the Visit Charters Towers website under the Charters Towers Show or at Ray’s Secondhand in Hodgkinson St.

He said the committee was also keen to see some more entries in the Tug-o-War competition.

“The police are keen to win again after winning it in 2019,” Mr McAllister said.

“We’ve already got confirmation of an emergency services battle between the police and the fireys.

“And we’ve heard rumours the councillors are going to enter a team.”

Mr McAllister said the Tug-o-War will take place on Monday night and team entries will be accepted on the night.
