Bizarre road rules that carry big fines

TOWNSVILLE residents have been reminded to lock up their homes and cars after a spate of break ins and robberies were reported overnight.

It is understood up to five cars were stolen overnight, including a BMW and Holden Commodore.

Two to three of those cars have yet to be located by police.

A Queensland police spokesman said it was a stark reminder for locals to lock up.

“Unfortunately there were a lot of properties burgled and cars stolen,” the spokesman said.

“It’s a reminder for people to do their best to lock up and make it harder for these people, the reprobates to take these hard-earned goods.”
Overnight reports indicate several market stalls may have also been damaged, but the extent was not yet known.

Despite Christmas being just under a week away, the break-ins were not said to be related to the upcoming holiday, but were a sign of criminals taking advantage of “good people”.
“It’s more so opportunistic,” the spokesman said.
“(They pick) easy targets with a good reward unfortunately – but they’re (thieves) not co-ordinated or skilful in any stretch of the imagination.”
