Co-workers of a 56-year-old man left homeless after a fire tore through his house and killed his pets on Tuesday have rallied to try and get him back on his feet.
Fire crews rushed to David Yoell’s Roseneath property on May 27, trying to put out a blaze that was so strong the smoke could be seen billowing into the sky from kilometres away.
Initial emergency calls were to reports of a large shed fire at the rear of a home, which was first noticed around 11.47am.
A 18,500L water truck was later brought to the scene to help with firefighting efforts.
The Jayco Townsville dealership launched a GoFundMe for Mr Yoell on Thursday.
“We are reaching out to help a dear friend and work colleague, David, aged 56, who has very recently experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” the GoFundMe read.
“In a matter of moments, he lost not only his belongings and home – but also his beloved pets, who were like family to him.”
Mr Yoell is known as a “kind, humble, and hardworking” man who lived modestly and helped others where he could.
According to the GoFundMe author, listed as ‘Jayco Townsville’, all donations given to the GoFundMe would be used to help Mr Yoell with emergency housing, basic living expenses, clothing, and rebuilding efforts.
Donated goods can also be dropped off at Jayco Townsville in Currajong.
