Townsville families can now enjoy a brand-new outdoor experience at the freshly renewed Riverside Green Park at Douglas.
The open space renewal project started in June and included construction of a new playground, shade sails, picnic shelters, barbecue, and associated landscape and drainage.
The small dog off-leash area was relocated with new shade shelters installed and a new entry point to the main dog off-leash area.
Divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said stage one of the project was almost complete after the council invested $1,085,000 into the renewal of the playground and amenities.
“The final touch to the playground will be the inclusive seat on the five-bay swing, which is expected to be installed in the coming weeks,” Cr Batkovic said.
“I’ve already had great feedback from residents who have visited the fun new park and have used the playground through to the dog park and everything in between.”
Townsville mum Paris Shaw said her family loved getting out to local parks to enjoy quality time outdoors.
“My daughter Poppy is two, so she’s at an age where she has a lot of energy and wants to play all the time,” Mrs Shaw said.
“As a teacher and a mother I understand the value of outdoor play. I’m really glad to see the upgrades at Riverside Green Park include playground equipment for children and young people of all abilities.”
