A driver who hit and killed a young man riding a bike has pleaded guilty to the 19-year-old’s death.
For the first time, Raphael Steven Woodhouse appeared in person in Townsville District Court, as he pleaded guilty to the charge of driving to cause the death of Michael Wehrman.
It’s alleged on April 23 last year, Mr Woodhouse was driving in the opposite direction to Mr Wehrman along Dalrymple Service Road in Heatley before the vehicles crashed and the 31-year-old drove off despite hitting the bike rider.
Mr Wehrman died when taken to hospital.
Mr Woodhouse was scheduled to enter pleas to the charge two weeks ago but it was rescheduled due to him being taken to hospital.
On Wednesday he walked into court from the watch house in a high-vis tradesman uniform and when asked by Judge John Coker if there was anything he’d like to say he replied, “I’m really sorry”.
A sentence date was set for June 4, Mr Woodhouse was remanded in custody.
