Townsville Police say the death of a local man on a quiet suburban street is not being treated as suspicious.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday that the body of a 54-year-old man, from the suburb of Currajong, was discovered by a passer-by on Albany Road in the neighbouring suburb on Hyde Park at 7:25pm.
Albany Road is at the rear of the CastleTown shopping centre.
While police had said the man was homeless earlier this morning, speaking this afternoon, a QPS spokeswoman said they had no information to indicate that that was the case, adding that family had been advised of the man’s passing.
Earlier, a police spokesman said it was investigating the “unclear” circumstances of the man’s death.
Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene after reports of an unconscious male who was not breathing.
At the time, the police spokesman said he could not confirm if the death was being treated as suspicious.
Multiple police cars and an ambulance were seen at an address about 8pm.
The QPS spokeswoman confirmed that QAS were in attendance at the scene of the death for about 30 minutes, with about five Townsville Police units also responding.
“It appears to be a medical condition, nothing has changed from our information this morning,” the spokeswoman said.
“We had five crews attend because you’ve got to take all precautions regardless of what your initial thoughts are … it appears to be a medical episode.”
