A PLANNED Garbutt pet care centre, cafe and shop has come under fire from nearby businesses.

A & J Gabrielli want to develop the dog daycare, cat boarding, food and drink outlet and shop on 324 Bayswater Road.

According to the development application, the site is located on the southern end of Bayswater Road and within the low impact industry zone.

The development would also have cat boarding facilities at the rear of the building with a food and drink outlet at the front.

“It is proposed that the doggie daycare will accommodate a maximum of 120 dogs and 30 cats,” the applicants say.

“The facility will provide a van to allow the pick-up and drop-off of animals, thus reducing the number of vehicles on site.”

The proposed hours of operation will be Monday to Saturday 6.30am to 6.30pm and Sunday 8am to 5pm.

The proposed cafe will operate during similar hours.

The development application says the proposal complies with the codes and the intended use is in character with the locality.

But the proposed development has however come under fire.

In a submission, Mary Ivanov, owner of Dalrymple Squash Centre, said the proposed dog daycare would be “loud, annoying and disruptive to any business”.

“This business will result in players not wanting to come to our centre,” she said.

“We have spoken to business owners who operate beside other dog daycare centres and they have all stated it is the absolute worst.

“We will be able to smell the deposits of doggie poop and cat poop.

“We have a bakery further from us and we can smell them easily; we have the Dalrymple pub closer and can smell them cooking. It will be near impossible to suppress smell of waste from a doggie/cat daycare centre.”

In another objection, Renee Nightingale, who runs security and first aid courses at 330 Bayswater Road, complained about the levels of noise the centre could create.

“The proposed doggie daycare will create a noise disturbance that will affect us from teaching outside, which takes away one of our biggest advantage points as a business, ‘train with us we will make you feel comfortable to study again’,” Ms Nightingale wrote.
