A man has been arrested following the armed robbery of two Townsville pubs.
Police arrested a 28-year-old Garbutt man accused of robbing the West End Hotel and The Royal.
Townsville CIB officer in charge Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Flanders said the West End Hotel was robbed on September 28 and the Royal Hotel was robbed on October 11.
Two armed men allegedly stormed The Royal Hotel armed with a crowbar and a makeshift firearm.
Two Townsville brothers fought off the offenders at first, making one cry. One of the offenders returned, knocking one of the brothers out with a crowbar and striking the other on the head with the butt of the firearm.
“Police will allege the 28-year-old male was an active participant in both of those robberies. The arrest came about after information was received from members of the public through Crimestoppers,” Senior Sgt Flanders said.
The man was arrested during a search warrant in relation to a return to prison warrant.
“During that search warrant evidence was seized, which upon review of that evidence led to us progressing information into the investigation and identifying the man was (allegedly) responsible for both of those robbery offences,” Senior Sgt Flanders said.
He said investigations were continuing to track down the other offenders involved in the robberies.
The Garbutt man was charged with two counts of armed robbery, as well as enter a premises with intent and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow.
