A $20,000-a-night North Queensland private island that can only be accessed by chartered chopper or superyacht is now open to bookings, with luxury guest perks like a private chef and fully stocked bar to match the eye-watering price tag.
Pelorus Private Island joins Morris Group’s $418m North Queensland tourism portfolio, headed up by Aussie rich lister and executive chairman Chris Morris.
“Pelorus Private Island puts Queensland in a competitive global landscape, by boasting a rare offering of unparalleled levels of privacy and personalised service that is unique in this part of the world,” Mr Morris said.
“We’re already starting to fill the year with bookings and can’t wait to share this exceptional product with guests from around the globe.”
Pelorus, which neighbours Morris Group’s Orpheus Island Lodge, features five luxurious suites surrounded by 400 hectares of untouched habitat, with views over the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef.
While there doesn’t appear to be a cap on guest numbers, the $20,000-a-night price includes access to four king suites, as well as “a fifth suite that can be used for staff (security, nanny etc) travelling with guests”.
On the website, under ‘rates and inclusions’ it says guests are able to enjoy “unlimited surround islands boat charters”, jet ski island tours, reef snorkelling and use of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and water bikes, among other perks.
A spokeswoman said the residence was powered only by solar panels and batteries, “ensuring a self-sustainable energy supply, with natural materials and ventilation systems incorporated into the design to minimise the hideaway’s environmental impact”.
“The island also provides access to the untouched wilderness of Hinchinbrook Island, Australia’s largest island national park, home to rainforest-clad hiking trails, cascading waterfalls, abundant wildlife and diverse flora,” she said.
“Perched on the pristine waters of the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, Pelorus Private Island offers an utterly secluded oasis like no other, accessible via a breathtaking 30-90 minute private helicopter charter from Townsville or Cairns, or by superyacht.”
