Parents are on alert after a young girl was approached by a ‘suspicious’ man outside Southern Cross Catholic College last Monday.

According to a concerned parent, a young primary school student was leaving the college grounds at the end of the day when she was approached by a man who grabbed her by the arm.

It is understood that the girl managed to escape by “screaming and running” back to school.

“It’s sickening, and the fact that the school hasn’t warned other parents about it is concerning,” the parent said.

“I think all parents deserve to know so they can at least talk to their kids about being aware of their surroundings and not going off with strangers.”

Police confirmed they are aware of an incident involving a student near the school in Annandale earlier this month.

A QPS spokeswoman said the matter was under investigation, but due to privacy reasons, they were unable to provide any further information at this time.

In response to questions from the Bulletin, Southern Cross Catholic College also confirmed that an incident occurred outside college grounds last week and was reported to police.

“As the police are investigating this matter, the college is unable to provide any further details,” a college spokeswoman said.

“Southern Cross Catholic College takes the safety and wellbeing of our students very seriously and will continue to work with authorities.”
