Police are investigating reports of a man publicly masturbating in broad daylight at a popular Townsville beach.

A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed officers had conducted patrols following reports of indecent acts along Pallarenda Beach at about 8.30am on Saturday, January 21.

It is understood beachgoers reported seeing a man masturbating in the bushes.

Public masturbation is considered an indecent act under Queensland law. Under the law, if any person wilfully does any indecent act in any place with intent to insult or offend any person, they can be jailed for a maximum of two years.
