A casual chat in a pub quickly turned serious, making Nick Attam realise the importance of being open to talking about men’s health.
The software engineer said one of his friend’s opened up about being diagnosed with testicular cancer. It made the father realise the importance of keeping healthy.
“I couldn’t imagine if things do happen, it really triggered me. (My friend) lost one testicle, he couldn’t do anything about it,” he said.
“It’s something people really need to talk about.”
Mr Attam’s frank chat broke the stigma of men speaking about their health issues and inspired him to raise money and awareness of men’s health by taking part in Movember.
“Movember has definitely changed the way I manage my own health. I do a lot of walking, especially during this period and challenge my other mates with my stats so that they have motivation to get walking,” he said.

“Most of my friends get inspired by my Movember look and start conversations, I myself have had many chats with strangers about men’s health because of my mo.”
His unusual moustache has irked his daughter, but Mr Attam explained why he had grown the flamboyant facial hair.
“This year my daughter said: ‘Daddy this year please keep your mo just (to your) lips not the music note style,’” he said.
“It made me giggle. I then explained to her that the style I choose is to stand out so that people recognise my mo and have a conversation about Movember and men’s health.”
