An application has been made to open a boutique new bar that will add to the “vibrancy and liveliness” of an industrial part of Townsville.

Documents lodged with Townsville City Council reveal that Saul Blyth is looking to develop the bar that can seat up to 60 people next to his existing business, Better Call Saul Mobile Roadworthy at 940 Ingham Road in Bohle.

According to a traffic impact assessment by Northern Consulting Engineers the total expected developed area of the site encompassed 602 square metres, including driveway, car parks, outdoor bar, bar, cold room, amenities and a smoking area.

Mr Blyth, a former heavy-vehicle mechanic in the Australian Army, could not be contacted on Monday.

“This is considered a natural expansion to the existing use and to be a part of the continued economic growth of the local area.”

Better Call Saul office manager Gail Bates, in a letter in support of the development, backed the new bar.

“As an employee of a reputable business within the local community, I believe that the establishment of licensed premises in the area will contribute positively to the economic and social fabric of Townsville,” she said.

“Licensed venues provide opportunities for social interaction, entertainment, and leisure, enhancing the vibrancy and liveliness of the Bohle industrial area.”

Ms Bates said the licensed premises would stimulate economic activity and support neighbouring local businesses.

“Increased foot traffic can benefit neighbouring establishments such as other industrial service providers, creating a thriving commercial environment that benefits the entire industrial community.”

She said the development would create local jobs for locals, including bartenders, servers, security personnel and management positions.

“These employment opportunities contribute to economic growth and prosperity, empowering individuals, businesses and families to support themselves and contribute to the local economy.”

The council has raised questions about the patron parking, specifically about 12 proposed on-street car parks.
