A WOMAN who rolled her car after leaning forward to pick up a fallen crystal has been banned from the roads, with a magistrate telling her it was “lucky” no one was hurt.

Jessica Maree Edith Muller, 28 pleaded guilty in Townsville Magistrates Court to driving under the influence of liquor or drugs on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Erin Collis told the court police and emergency services had been called to a single vehicle rollover on the Bruce Highway at Damper Creek, north of Townsville, at 6.20am on May 11.

Muller’s orange Kia sedan was found on the side of the road with the car appearing to have rolled “numerous” times.

Police saw Muller walking around the car, picking up books which were scattered on the ground.

Officers who spoke with Muller noticed her fingers and toes were “twitching” and she could not remain focused on the conversation.

Senior Constable Collis said Muller had told police she had been driving when a crystal had dropped, causing her to bend down to pick it up, causing her to cross over into the southbound lane and crash.

Muller was taken to the Ingham Police Station where she tested positive to a substance.

A certificate of analysis was tendered to Magistrate Ken Taylor.

Muller, who represented herself, told Mr Taylor she was a disability support worker who relied on her licence for work.

But Mr Taylor said because of her charge she was unable to have a work licence.

Mr Taylor said it was “concerning” Muller had been driving in “those circumstances”, and referred to the “presence of drugs” in her certificate of analysis.

“Fortunately there were no other victims or road users involved in the accident,” Mr Taylor said.

He fined Muller $800 and disqualified her from driving for seven months.

A conviction was not recorded.
