Fitness enthusiasts, bushwalkers and dog strollers will soon be able to enjoy a major new scenic walk.
The Mount Louisa walking trails, stretching more than 3.5km and built using 1700 steps, will open at the weekend.
The $2.2m track was built by JMAC constructions with local track expert Peter McLean developing the design.

“The community has been eagerly awaiting the official opening of the first stage of this trail since it was first announced, and I’m delighted that the time has come,” Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said. “Unlocking Mount Louisa’s potential has been a priority for council and will help keep our city active and reduce pedestrian traffic on Castle Hill during peak hours.”
Fitness groups are looking forward to taking on the challenging trails, which will rival those on Castle Hill.
“With our group fitness group we organise days where we go to Castle Hill and Queens Gardens. (Mount Louisa) will add to the adventure,” 1 Million Strong gym personal trainer Connor Pettigrew said.
The grand opening of the track will start at 7am on Saturday.
