Morgan Lyons charged after she shared restricted footage on Snapchat

A POLICE officer accused of sharing restricted dash camera footage of an incident on Palm Island on Snapchat has fronted court.
Morgan Elizabeth Lyons appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday after she was charged with using a restricted computer without consent and cause or intend to cause detriment, damage or gain.
The charge was dismissed and Ms Lyons was arraigned on one charge of disclosing dashcam footage obtained through the knowledge through the performance of the duties of a police officer.
The footage showed an incident where a teenager was hit by a police car on Palm Island and was leaked and shared on Snapchat.
Ms Lyons’s solicitor Claire McGee appeared via video link and asked for the charge to be transferred to Brisbane for a guilty plea.
Ms Lyons will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 21.
The Bulletin understands Ms Lyons remains employed by the Queensland Police Service in the Townsville region.
Two other officers were accused of misconduct following the incident last year.
Former Detective Senior Sergeant Benjamin Weare was demoted by the QPS.
He pleaded guilty in the Townsville Magistrates Court to improperly disclosing information.
