Matildas vs. Sweden: Townsville watch party at Riverway Stadium

The Matildas final World Cup game will be shown on the big screen in Townsville, as they play against Sweden for the pride of a third-place finish in the tournament.

Following screenings at the Strand Park and Jezzine Barracks, this time the screen is being set up at Riverway Stadium in Thuringowa.

The game kicks off at 6pm, with the watch party starting one hour earlier.

Organised by Football Queensland alongside Townsville City Council, there will be games for the kids, and food trucks.

A scoreline-defying narrow 3-1 loss to England ended the Matildas dreams of lifting the trophy, but they had already won the hearts and minds of Australians, and torched the belief that women’s sports can’t be just as successful as mens.

There are currently no plans to hold a watch party for the final, in which England will take on Spain.
