Matildas vs. England: Watch party coming to Jezzine Barracks, Townsville
The big screen is coming back to Townsville for the semi-final match against England, but it’s been moved away from the Strand Park.

After a wildly successful watch party for the Matildas match against France, the big screen is coming back to Townsville for everyone to suffer and celebrate together.
Instead of the Strand Park, the Wednesday night game will be screened at Jezzine Barracks parade grounds, and kicks off at 8pm.
Just like Saturday, the screen will be complemented with food trucks and games for the kids.
Mayor Jenny Hill said she was expecting a passionate crowd.
“Hundreds of people turned out to the nail biting quarterfinal win against France on the weekend and we are expecting another good turnout out for the game on Wednesday,” Cr Hill said.
“Townsville’s football fans will be cheering on the team as they take on the Lionesses in Sydney and look to book their spot in the final on Sunday.
“Everyone is welcome come along and bring a chair or picnic blanket and enjoy the game live and free on the big screen.”
Football Queensland General Manager Northern and Far North and Gulf Declan Carnes said the excitement of the Matildas has generated unprecedented support in the country for women’s football.
“The Matildas run in the Women’s World Cup has inspired a new generation of girls and boys to take part in the world game,” Mr Carnes said.
“The win against France will go down as one of the greatest achievements in Australia’s sporting history and it was special to be able to celebrate the win surrounded by a group of passionate fans.
“It would be great to see a crowd come along and cheer on the Matildas as they get the win over England and progress to the final on Sunday.”
