Man charged after three fires allegedly deliberately lit in Currajong

Townsville Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of alleged arson attacks, including one involving a house.

A QFES spokeswoman said the first fire was set in the living room of the home but quickly contained by firefighters who received multiple emergency calls to the incident.

She said a car was then torched outside 150 Bayswater Rd and a camper van outside a property at number 170 on the same street.

The spokeswoman said all three allegedly deliberately lit fires were linked.

Queensland Police Service confirmed a 25-year-old man had been arrested following multiple fires along a street in Currajong overnight Saturday.

“It will be alleged the floorboards in the room of a house were set on fire around 11.30pm on March 30,” a QPS spokesman said.

“Emergency crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread.”

He also confirmed that a parked car and box trailer parked at separate addresses were also allegedly set on fire.

No one was injured in any of the fires, he said.

“It is further alleged that a man broke a window at a business on Ingham Road, Garbutt, around the same time frame.”

The 25-year-old Garbutt man has been charged with arson of a motor vehicle, arson of a structure or building, wilful damage, stealing and enter premises with intent.

He is expected to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.
