Major gun bust nets nine firearms and three arrests in Upper Haughton raid

Three people have been arrested and charged after Queensland Police executed a search warrant on a property in the Upper Haughton on November 18 as part of Operation Xray Gunwale.
Detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad and local officers located and seized nine firearms, two barrels, 1800 rounds of ammunition and firearm components. Five of the firearms located had previously been reported lost or stolen.
A 38-year-old Upper Haughton man was arrested on November 18 and charged with five counts of receiving tainted property (firearms), three counts of possess tainted property, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of unlawful possession of ten or more weapons, losses shortened firearm, possess detachable magazine without licence, authority to possess explosives (ammunition), possess property suspected of being used in a drug offence and possess utensils.
He is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on December 2.
A 26-year-old Mount Louisa man was arrested on November 21 and charged with four counts of leave a child under 12 unattended, three counts of unlawful supply of a Category A/B/M weapon and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, trafficking weapons and unlawful supply of a Category D/H/R weapon.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on December 5.
A 38-year-old Sarina man was arrested on November 26 and charged with three counts of unlawful supply of Category A/B/M weapons. He was remanded in custody and was expected to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on December 1.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant James Lucas of the Northern Region’s Major and Organised Crime Squad said every unlawful weapon taken off the street helps make the community safer.
“Community safety is our priority and we’ll continue to direct our specialist resources to target offenders possessing and supplying unlawful firearms,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Lucas said.
“We’ll take whatever action we can to ensure these serious crimes and detected and disrupted, and those involved are held responsible for their actions.”
