A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening another man with a machete taped to the end of a long metal pole.

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening another man with a machete taped to the end of a long metal pole.

Police will allege the armed man entered the backyard of a Picnic Bay address about 7.30pm on Monday.

It will be further alleged he approached another man in the backyard, yelled at him and stood over him with the weapon.

A scuffle ensued and the man with the machete was disarmed. He was asked to leave the property and eventually left.

Police located the alleged offender walking from the address and found two flares and a knife in his pockets.

A 26-year-old Picnic Bay man was charged with one count each of assault, trespass and possess knife in a public place. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on October 27.
